    The Knott House Museum
The Knott House Museum

A time capsule, restored to its 1928 splendor, the Knott House Museum is one of the oldest buildings and the only house museum in the state capitol’s Park Avenue Historic District. Known as the ‘House That Rhymes’ as owner Luella Knott, a noted poet, immortalized the house and its furnishings in verse. Built in 1843, probably by free black builder George Proctor, the Knott House was first occupied by attorney Thomas Hagner and his wife Catherine Gamble. The house served as temporary Union Headquarters in 1865, where Brigadier General Edward McCook announced the Emancipation Proclamation.

Tallahassee Museum

The Museum's mission is to increase the knowledge of and appreciation for our region's cultural and natural heritage. A walk through the 1880's farm complex or a stroll by a Florida panther habitat at the Natural Habitat Zoo can be as educational as the visitor desires. The Museum's farmstead, historic buildings, collections of artifacts and native wildlife, along with its natural science exhibits, nature trails and Discovery Center, all contribute to the Museum's regional significance as a museum of history and natural science.

    Pebble Hill Plantation
Pebble Hill Plantation

Pebble Hill Plantation was originally a cotton plantation created in the early 1800’s by Thomas Jefferson Johnson.  After the Civil War, Howard Melville Hanna from Cleveland, Ohio purchased the property.  He and his family enjoyed Pebble Hill as a winter home and hunting lodge.  All of the buildings currently standing were built by the Hanna family after 1900.  The Hanna granddaughter, Elisabeth (Pansy) Ireland Poe, willed that Pebble Hill be opened to the public after her death.  The museum today is a wonderful example of a 20th Century shooting plantation. Wander the grounds where pines and magnolias throw long shadows across lush green lawns and gardens. A stroll through the extensive and beautiful grounds always leads to the stable complex, where their intriguing serpentine walls showcase a collection of antique carriages. The overall impression one receives from this remarkable plantation is more felt than defined.
Location: 1251 US Highway 319 South, Thomasville, GA 31792
