The Florida Marlins were established in 1993 as part of a league expansion and so are one of the younger teams in the National League. The Marlins currently share Miami's Dolphin Stadium with the Miami Dolphin football team, an arrangement that is due to end after the 2010 season when they move to their new $515 million ballpark which was built on the site of the legendary Miami Orange Bowl. When the team moves it will change its name from the Florida marlins to the Miami Marlins.
Despite being relative newcomers to the majors they have been fairly successful winning the World Series twice in 1997 and in 2003, despite never winning their division and advancing to the playoffs with a wild card. They are also the only team to have won all of their postseason series to date.
The Marlins share Jupiter's Roger Dean stadium with the St. Louis Cardinals, a specially designed $28 million Spring Training complex that was specifically designed to house two Major League ball teams. The state of the art stadium opened in February 1998, it has a capacity of 7,000 and is the newest of its kind in Florida. The seating is a mix of box seats, bleachers and skyboxes with an additional 300 on a party deck and in berm seating.
