The Atlanta Braves are the oldest continuously operating professional sports franchise in America and the only one of the current Major League franchise to have fielded a team every season since professional baseball has been in existence.
The Braves started life in Boston in the 1870's where they were known as the Boston Red Stockings. Over the years their name changed and they moved from Boston to Milwaukie and eventually to Atlanta in 1966 where they are based today.
The most successful teams of the 1990's, the Braves contested the World Series five times winning it for the first time in 38 years in 1995. They are currently the only team to have won the World Series in three different cities, 1914 in Boston, 1957 in Milwaukee and the 1995 title in Atlanta.
In recent years the Braves have struggled to recapture their blistering form of the 1990's and the early 2000's finishing 4th in the NL East in 2008.
In 1998 the Braves moved from West Palm Beach's Municipal Stadium to the Champions Stadium at Disney's Wide World of sports. Designed in the Florida Spanish Mission style is one of the nicer Spring Training venues with a capacity of 9,500. The majority of the seating is in the split level grandstand with 80% of the seats between the first and third bases. For those of you that like to kick-back and relax there is a grassy berm down the left-field line and across the outfield to the scoreboard. If you intend to sit in the berm area all you will need is a blanket and some protection from the Florida sun.
